Amerikanske emorappere indtager Pumpehuset
Emo rap, cloud hip hop, trap beats and punk energy are on the menu when two of American hip hop's most exciting underground rappers give a double concert in Copenhagen this spring. That Lil Tracy and Brennan Savage share the stage makes good sense, because they have more in common than their musical expression, and that they both have over 1 million. monthly listeners on Spotify. The two wordsmiths have thus both crossed paths with the late Lil Peep (1996-2017). Brennan Savage grew up in New York with the emorap legend and later lived with him in Savage's apartment when they both moved to Los Angeles, while Lil Tracy has numerous collaborations with Lil Peep on her resume.
Lil Tracy comes from a musical home as the son of rappers Ishmael Butler (Digable Planets) and Cherry "Coko" Gamble from the soul group SWV - he himself listened to both punk, emo, hip-hop and witch house as a child. Jazz Ishmael Butler, as he's named, first drew attention to himself as part of the rap crews Thraxxhouse and GothBoiClique before going solo in 2016 as Lil Tracy. The following year, the breakthrough came as a featuring artist on the Lil Peep hits "White Wine" and "Awful Things" and with the solo track "Overdose", which was followed up by two mixtapes, "Tracy's Manga" and "XOXO".
Since then, Lil Tracy has shown himself to be a productive musician with a string of EPs and albums on his conscience, as well as collaborations with, among others, Chief Kief and Shabazz Palaces. His third album "Saturn Child" was released in 2022, where Pitchfork signed off with a nice grade of 7.5 and called the genre-experimenting album "a cosmic synthesis of EDM, emo rap, and cutesy pop refrains" and characterized him as "an aching romantic with a perpetually broken heart and a penchant for toxic love affairs”.
Brennan Savage is also a musician who gets things done. He has also released a large number of EPs and albums as well as recorded with Lil Tracy's aforementioned rap collective GothBoiClique and underground producers such as Fish Narc, Garbage and Drowning. Since 2017, he has released a total of five albums, the latest of which, "Tragedy II", was released in December 2023. His sound universe is - like Lil Tracy - characterized by a penchant for heavy and atmospheric productions and bare confessional lyrics that dive deep into serious topics such as grief, drugs and depression.
On April 21, an intense evening is planned at Pumpehuset, when Lil Tracy and Brennan Savage perform their sensitive and soulful tracks with a towering energy level that invites moshpits.
