Dark Tranquility is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in Gothenburg in 1989. They are considered pioneers of the melodic death metal genre and have had a significant influence on many other bands in the metal world.

The band was formed by guitarists Niklas Sundin and Mikael Stanne, as well as bassist Martin Henriksson. Over the years, the band has gone through several member changes, but Stanne has remained the most prominent member.

Dark Tranquility is known for their complex guitar arrangements, atmospheric keyboard tracks and Stanne's signature growls. Their lyrics often touch on existential and philosophical themes, which has earned them a loyal fan base all over the world.

Over the years, Dark Tranquility has toured extensively around the world and performed at major festivals such as Wacken Open Air and Download Festival. Their energetic live performances and dedication to their fans have contributed to their long-lasting popularity.

Dark Tranquility has released twelve studio albums to date, each with its own unique sound and musical expression. Of particular note here is "The Gallery" (1995), considered by many fans to be a high point of the band's career with its mix of aggression and melody, and "Damage Done" (2002), a return to the band's earlier sound with a focus on fast riffs and intensity.

The band announces that a new album "Endtime Signals" is on the way, and they promise to continue challenging the boundaries of melodic death metal.
