Symphony X is an American progressive, power-metal band, founded in 1994 by guitarist Michael Romeo.

Their 1997 album 'The Divine Wings of Tragedy' and their 2000 release 'V:The New Mythology Suite' have won them a place in the hearts of many fans of progressive metal. These albums also demonstrate the band's ability to create intricate musical soundscapes that take the listener on a journey through dark mythological worlds, philosophical concepts and emotional narratives. Symphony X has released a total of 9 albums, the latest, 'Underworld', from 2015.


Stylistically, they are on par with other prog-metal bands such as Dream Theater, Fates Warning and Pain of Salvation, but are just a little heavier. They play very syncopated and also have symphonic and neoclassical elements in the music in the style of Yngwie Malmsteen and Randy Rhoads.
