Weval returns to Copenhagen and plays a concert at Pumpehuset as part of their upcoming tour – and with new music in their luggage from the anticipated album Chorophobia, which will be their fourth in a row.
Weval, consisting of Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers, have been known for their refined and cinematic approach to electronic music since their debut in 2013. With roots in the world of film and a penchant for detailed soundscapes, they move effortlessly between downtempo, house, techno and pop – without being defined by genre.
Over the years, the duo has achieved international acclaim, performing with their five-piece live band at prominent festivals such as Primavera Sound, Pukkelpop, Lowlands, Best Kept Secret, Nuits Sonores and DGTL Amsterdam, as well as playing sold-out shows at legendary venues such as Paradiso and the Royal Concertgebouw in their hometown of Amsterdam.
Their debut album Weval from 2016 won Dance Album of the Year at the Edison Awards in the Netherlands. Follow-ups The Weight (2019) and Remember (2023) expanded the duo’s sound with deeper emotional and experimental layers. The music has also found its way into series such as Good Girls, Industry and I May Destroy You, and the duo has performed live at BBC Radio 1’s iconic Maida Vale Studios.
With the upcoming album Chorophobia, Weval explores new musical directions with a greater focus on rhythm, tempo and immediacy – a development that is also reflected in their new live show.
