Known for his distinctive, multilingual style, effortlessly blending Japanese and English in his lyrics, often with poetic, thoughtful, and socially conscious themes, Shing02 has built a strong fan base over the years, especially among listeners with a passion for alternative hip-hop and jazzy beats.

The Japanese-American rapper, producer, and activist is known for his unique ability to fuse Eastern and Western musical traditions. Raised in Tanzania, England, and Japan, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area at age 15, where he became part of the thriving hip-hop scene of the early 1990s.

His musical journey began in earnest in 1995, and he has since collaborated with a number of DJs and musicians. Most notably, he collaborated with the late Japanese producer Nujabes. Together, they created the groundbreaking "Luv(sic)" series, a six-part collection of songs that combine jazz, soul, and hip-hop, and have been a major influence on the development of the lo-fi hip-hop genre.
